December Athlete of the Month – Doris

Merry Christmas to all! Tis the season for us to bring our hands and joyful holiday spirit together to celebrate our athlete of the month. So without further ado let’s hear it for… Doris!!!

Doris has had an extraordinary 8 months in our 2024 family. She came to us with prior CrossFit experience and a good foundation of movement, however this year she has dedicated herself to daily disciplines that have allowed her to soar in incredible ways! Doris, wife and mother of two beautiful girls, jump starts her mornings in our 5:15am class. If for some reason life happens and she can’t make it in the morning, she makes it a priority to get to the evening class instead, with kiddos in tow many times too! Doris is a wonderful person with a genuine heart and a lovely spirit and smile. She stays positive, doesn’t complain, and welcomes feedback from our coaches. Since joining our family Doris has been zealous with her nutrition, which combined with her CrossFit practice, has allowed her to lose 30 pounds! We are couldn’t be more proud of her, but truly the best thing is hearing from her personally how much better she feels and happier she is. We love you Doris and can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for you!

Some fun facts about Doris:

Q: How long have you been doing CrossFit?
A: I started in 2012 then took break in 2014 till this year! 

Q: Why did you originally hop on the CrossFit Express?
A: My older sister introduced us our first coach at her home garage gym (Wendy) after being with her a while my little sister discovered another CrossFit place and was afraid to go alone so I went with her and we both fell in love with the environment, the people and the workouts. 

Q: What’s your favorite movement in CrossFit?
A: I would say overhead squats. Challenging but doable. 

Q: What are your long term goals?
A: I would love to compete and hey who know maybe be a trainer one day too. But I would like to get to a healthy weight and be healthy so I can be around for my girls for as long as I can. 

Q: Biggest accomplishments since joining 2024
A: I would have to say the running! I hated running I still do but I have improved so much. I still have my no walking goal and I am sticking to it. 

Q: What’s one hidden talent you have or interesting fact about you?
A: I think it would be that I like to bake cakes for my family. Like cool Birthday and occasion cakes. Although it’s stressful because I want it perfect it’s still fun. And some may know but not all that i have 2 amazing kiddos but one is diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called FoxG1 syndrome. 

Q: Favorite movie?
A: Man on Fire- because it was the first movie my husband and I saw when we were first dating 14 years ago. 

Q: Favorite coffee/lunch/dinner spot in ATX?
A: That’s a tough one. I would have to say my mom’s house. I don’t think I have a favorite it would be more like my husbands favorite since he is the picky one. I am always open to new suggestions! 

Q: Tell us of a time you laughed so hard you cried
A: Anytime my sisters, and parents are together. Sattie is the funniest. she is the best at impersonations. 

Q: What’s one item on your bucket list?
A: Go to Paris or maybe skydiving 

Q: What are you looking forward to most in 2019?
A: Another blessed year full of life, happiness and great health for all my family and friends and myself of course.

Q: What advice would you give someone interested in doing CrossFit, but hasn’t made the leap yet?
A: I needed to join a gym that had the right environment. CrossFit has provided me with an amazing community of supporters and has educated me in proper form. As a mother of two girls, CrossFit allowed me to get a awesomely hard workout without spending hours in the gym. I’m grateful for Crossfit. Don’t be afraid, just do it. You’ll fall in love! Nutrition is a big component to success, consistency is the key but we are all humans and we sometimes fall off the wagon. That’s okay just realize it and start again.
