November Athlete of the Month – Gracie

By: 0

Let’s hear it for this month’s athlete of the month…. Gracie!!!

Gracie joined our family 6 months ago and recently has really started to soar in the box! “Gracie girl” starts her mornings off with a 5:15am workout before heading into work to pursue her life’s passions (working with kids alongside Americorps). She consistently comes in with a smile, a coachable spirit and a heart of gratitude that is infectious. Gracie is doing an amazing job on the nutrition challenge and has really been sticking to her guns. Gracie stays positive and doesn’t complain. We couldn’t be prouder of her and the progress she’s made in her time with us. We absolutely love having you in our 2024 family Gracie girl and we can’t wait to see all the wonderful gains 2019 has in store for you! Keep it up!

Some fun facts about Gracie:

Q: How long have you been doing CrossFit?
A: This is my first time doing CrossFit so after this month it’ll be 6 months.

Q: Why did you originally hop on the CrossFit Express?
A: Originally I wanted to get in better shape without having to use a normal gym which I find intimidating because I had no idea how to properly use the equipment. I have friends who do CrossFit and it always seemed so badass and fun! I also wanted to join for the social aspect since I was new to ATX.

Q: What’s your favorite movement in CrossFit?
A: Love me some front squats! Right now I’m big on my handstands though since I’ve finally developed the strength to hold myself for long periods of time on the wall.

Q: What are your long term goals?
A: Long term goals are being comfortable working with heavier weights especially during awkward movements like clean and jerks or snatches. Also looking to get more toned!

Q: Biggest accomplishments since joining 2024
A: I would say my biggest accomplishment is confidence level. I’ve lost weight AND lost any self-doubt I had about my capabilities.

Q: What’s one hidden talent you have or interesting fact about you?
A: Hm… hidden talent might be scrapbooking. Interesting fact is I grew up in Hawaii!

Q: Favorite movie?
A: Juno!

Q: Favorite coffee/lunch/dinner spot in ATX?
A: Odd Duck is the BEST for a fancy dinner and Austin Daily Press has the yummiest tortas around.

Q: Tell us of a time you laughed so hard you cried
A: I didnt laugh until I cried but I laughed pretty hard when Doris didn’t recognize me after I shaved my head

Q: Favorite joke?
A: From a 3rd grader: What do you call a dog on Halloween? A blood hound

Q: What’s one item on your bucket list?
A: Backpack around Europe

Q: What are you looking forward to most in 2019?
A: Turing 21 and continuing to live in Austin!

Q: What advice would you give someone interested in doing CrossFit, but hasn’t made the leap yet?
A: It seems super intimidating and also pricey especially for someone who has no real gym experience but it is SO worth it. There’s going to be tough days and tough weeks but the 2024 family will ALWAYS have your back, in and out of the gym and that alone is a reason to join.
